Issue Date: 2010
Abstract: This project aims to develop a system that would enable users to generate simple geometric designs for fabrication. Islamic motifs or arabesque design are used as a basis for this project since Islamic art uses repeated geometric patterns to form intricate designs this makes it a suitable reference and guide for this project. The design of these patterns is made using the CAD software called Solidworks. Initial design was made using preset geometric sketch tools, and with the use of the macro recorder and Solidworks API. A mix and match concept is finally adopted to provide a variety of designs options catered to the users preference. This design concept is found to be satisfactory as it enables the creation of unique designs while keeping in tune with the arabesque motifs. The design concept is further evaluated and ideas to improved the design method were also proposed so that future development would make it a more flexible and robust product. In conclusion this concept is fairly able to meet the proposed objective of designing simple geometric patterns.
