Abstract: This thesis focuses on the topic of co-metabolism of trichloroethylene (TCE) by aerobic granules fed on phenol. Extensive literature research and review were conducted in the areas of co-metabolic degradation of recalcitrant compounds, aerobic and anaerobic TCE degradation, phenol degradation and aerobic granular sludge. Experiments were designed and conducted in the following aspects, to explore the feasibility of sustainable TCE degradation operation by aerobic granular sludge and reactor.
