Abstract: Seismic isolation has been proven to be one of the most effective techniques to provide protection for both buildings and their contents during earthquakes. However, this technology is applicable only for low- to medium-rise buildings. This study attempts to find out the possibility of applying seismic isolation to high-rise buildings. The high-rise building studied is divided into segments which are interconnected by seismic isolation systems. This concept of seismic isolation is therefore called segmental buildings.
