Abstract: The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in high precision servo control systems for its high efficiency and low power loss. Without the field windings, the power density is increased, while the size and weight of the machine are reduced. The elimination of mechanical contacts such as brushes and slips releases the limitation on the speed range and current capacity. This also eases the maintenance of the PMSM. In this thesis, we study the control and estimation techniques of the PMSM without mechanical sensors.
