Abstract: Canada's abundant mineral resources and vast forested land areas had traditionally made the mining and forestry industries important contributors to the country's Gross National Product (GNP). In recent years, however, these two industries have faced increasing hardships due to rising business costs, especially in wages. Several pertinent issues underpin the conditions of the Canadian mining and forestry industries. These are trade liberalisation, environmental factors and technology.
