Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to review the geotechnical engineering practices in Singapore from construction management points of view. Emphases are placed on the geotechnical engineering investigation aspects of the industry which is viewed to be the obstacle to obtaining quality, relevant and reliable data for a sound and economical foundation engineering design. The study reviews the various issues, problems and shortcomings of the geotechnical engineering investigation industry and attempts to propose various measures for improvement. The study also briefly reviews the practices in other countries in the region for assessing and comparing the standards that Singapore has attained with those countries.
