In doing so, transcontinental telephone calls can be achieved at the mere costs of local telephone calls and nominal Internet connectivity charges. A wide range of Internet telephony systems has been developed and marketed. However, most of these systems are developed using proprietary technology. Hence, inter-operability between systems from different vendors is not supported.
