Title: | Impact response of circular composite laminates | Authors: | Sun, Yi. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Materials::Compositional materials science | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | Impact response behavior of the graphite-epoxy composite circular plate subject to impact load at center with varied geometric configurations has been investigated in this report. The modeling methods used to analyze the impact response behavior of the plate are energy-balance model and single degree of freedom spring-mass model. The energy-balance model was employed to calculate the ultimate values of impact force, displacement and energies absorption. The spring-mass model was used to retrace all the history of the different parameters of the impact. To enable analysis and comparison of the impact response behavior between each of the different geometric profiles, three impact tests which involve varied thickness, varied dimension of radius and varied dimension of scale are firstly carried out using the same impactor. It was then followed by a further impact response analysis in relation to thickness effect with more test data collected. Finally, scaling phenomenon where small scale model are developed in this analysis and their test results were compared with that of full scale prototype. The test results in this report were quantified and represented in terms of graphic plots and their impact response behaviors are summarized at the end of each discussion. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/42844 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
