Abstract: Content-based image indexing and retrieval is a challenging task given the broad spectrum of requirements and targeted multimedia applications, as well as involved visual features of importance in such context. Among these features, color and texture constitute powerful visual cues and are perhaps the most salient and commonly used low-level visual features in image re-trieval systems. In this thesis, we propose several new color and texture features to address some fundamental issues of conventional color and tex-ture features for content-based image indexing and retrieval.
