Abstract: Over the past years, the development of dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) systems has made great progress, with expectation to span the entire low-loss range of 1.2-1.7 micrometer in silica fibers. This huge bandwidth is only accessible if suitable optical amplifiers are available.
