It has been fourteen years since Hong Kong has been recovered by the People’s Republic of China. However, discourses relating to Hong Kong’s Cultural identity show no signs of faltering. Owing to its British and Chinese Cultural roots, Hong Kong’s identity is intrinsically “hybrid”. Such hybridity is volatile, making it a worthy cause for study through deconstruction and reconstruction of representations. As much as post-colonialist discussions were fervent during the colonial era, is the bipolarized relationship between the colonial master and the colonized land still valid? How then, does Hong Kong perceive its identity in relation to the infamous “ninety seven” barrier and power of discussion? Hence, this essay purports introspection by examining “The Infernal Affairs” series in terms of “identification”, “time” and “narrative”. Babha’s paper on DissemiNation will be applied to facilitate analysis.
