Title: | Are you man enough? : the display and practice of masculinity in Singapore. | Authors: | Loh, Dylan Ming Hui. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Social sciences::Sociology::Family, marriage and women | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | Masculinity theorists have tended to focus on the notions and consequences of masculinity whilst paying little attention to its actual practice. This research, however, investigates into how masculinity is displayed and practiced through dating. The study shows that masculinity is a performance, is flexible and can be amplified or contracted accordingly. My findings maps out the ways masculinity can be employed in the sphere of dating to achieve certain goals. It further points out how males form their own personal narratives of masculinity in face of threats or uncertainty to it. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/43800 | Schools: | School of Humanities and Social Sciences | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
