Development of Myanmar web search engine.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop a web search engine for the Myanmar language. Despite the increase in volume of information available in the Myanmar language on the web, Information Retrieval (IR) for the Myanmar language is still inefficient due to the lack of support for the language by the major search engines.

The study reviewed literatures on design and architecture of general web search engines and language specific web search engines to acquire the knowledge to develop a web search engine for the Myanmar language. The study also reviewed literatures on the Myanmar language, Myanmar encoding systems and syllable segmentation algorithms for the Myanmar language. In order to adopt a suitable segmentation approach, the study reviewed literatures on segmentation approaches and its effect on IR.
