Title: | Nevex : virtual reality gaming platform. | Authors: | Tan, Zyane Ching Hong. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Design::Product | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | Computer gaming is a huge source of entertainment for people worldwide in the present age. For two decades, it has tremendously increased in popularity and become integrated in many lives. Statistics show a large proportion of gamers are sedentary for long hours each day, causing an alarming increase in health issues such as obesity. However, discouraging gaming as a way of reducing potential risks is not feasible as gaming is a vital component of many people’s lifestyles and does have its benefits. Recent platforms such as Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect introduced the concept of healthier ‘exergaming’ and have enticed numerous gamers out of their sedentary positions, requiring the use of their bodies as ‘controllers’ instead of moving just their fingers in a more immersive gaming experience. Technological advances improve gaming quality, providing people with increasingly heightened sensory experiences; exemplified by virtual reality, which will break boundaries and bring entertainment to a new level, while at the same time addressing gaming-related health issues. This project aims to develop a holistic system that incorporates advanced technologies, designed to allow gamers to fully experience virtual reality and maximize the health benefits they gain from gaming. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/44205 | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
