Abstract: This report basically looks into the various types of Media Access Control (MAC) protocols operations such as the S-MAC, T-MAC, B-MAC and B-MAC+ and their individual advantages and disadvantages. It also provides an overview of the data frame structure at the data link layer as well as the two different types of MAC implementations namely TKN154 and the one which is being utilized by the micaz family range of motes. Previously, there are other variants of motes such as the mica and mica2 family motes. However, this report shall solely concentrate on the operations of the micaz-family motes and illustrates how data frames flows with the aid of finite state machine diagrams.
