Title: "CIMED"(CIna MEDan = Medanese Chinese).
Authors: Henry, Willis Turner.
Keywords: DRNTU::Visual arts and music::Photography
Issue Date: 2011
Abstract: This work is a series of self-portraits. It is a visual exploration of feeling on questioning identity addressing issues of nationality, belonging, and alienation. The story is incubated from a personal experience as a Chinese Indonesia from Medan. Visual language exploration has played a big role into the research of the project.The performative value in every picture is a manifestation of an idea of examining the fragment of experiences that is being recorded in a single moment. The role of photography here is not merely a record of action but unites with the performative act to enhance the perception of the idea. These pictures employ a soft look to achieve the lost-in-paradise feeling.
