dc.description.abstractReal-time location system (RTLS) is used to localize and track the moving objects in real time basis. RTLS uses small and inexpensive tags attached to the tracking objects, which continuously transmits wireless signal to readers. Finally, the location of the target (tag) can be determined. RTLS has lots of real application in our daily life, including real-time tracking, office building security system, indoor navigation system and so on. Especially, it can be applied in indoor environment to address the inefficiency of GPS (Global Positioning System). In this project, a RTLS was constructed with the purpose of monitoring moving objects in real time. The whole project included two phase. The first phase was to localize and calculate the position of the tracking object based on the signal received by readers. During the second phase, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was programmed aiming to monitor the tracking object’s movement in real time. Additionally, some meaningful and applicable features, such as email alert and historic path storage, Ire also developed to make the GUI more functional and reasonable. In the result, the Real-time Location System created is able to track the moving object in an indoor environment with acceptable accuracy and monitor the moving object in real time basis. This thesis summarizes the localization algorithms and techniques are used localize the object as Ill as how the GUI are constructed to implement all the algorithms and monitor the movement of tracking object to end-user in real time.en_US
