Title: | Incorporating wind turbine into LV microgrid system | Authors: | Wang, Shusen. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Electric power | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | Windy energy is one of the promising alternatives to replace fossil fuel plants and nuclear plants for safe and clean power generation. However, contemporary technology has not yet proven that wind energy has the capacity to replace other fuel plants. More efforts have to be endeavored for research of wind energy to increase the efficiency and availability. The main purpose of this report is to design a converter system that can convert the energy from the wind turbine generator to a battery storage system, and hence can supply the energy to the grid. This function will be achieved by designing an AC-DC rectifier, DC-DC bidirectional converter and DC-AC inverter. A proper controller is also needed for the energy to flow safely to battery and to grid. The Laboratory of Clean Energy Research (LaCER) has access to the output of the wind turbine on the roof of Block S2, and also has access to the Microgrid system which was utilized to check the hardware designs during the experiments. After circuits were designed, PSIM was used to carry out the simulation and verify the whole process. After that, hardware connection including the control circuits were built and tested, and results were recorded. The hardware testing shows similar outcomes as what simulation suggests which further confirms the correctness of the design. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/45226 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
