dc.description.abstract | This report documents the process in developing the teaching tool for Mechanics of Engineering Materials. Through a careful study of the different developmental costs of an effective learning module, this project’s development is justified by a cost comparison of the traditional instructor-led training with the proposed e-learning model. The project began with the investigation of a few authoring tools which ended with the selection of Flash as the basis of design. This was closely followed by a systematic planning and design of instruction. Adopting perspectives that included social sciences, marketing, engineering, education and multimedia development, a multi-faceted strategy was selected for the project planning and design. Several possible future developments of the product will be touched on and finally the report conclusion will re-emphasize education as a cooperative activity rather than a one-sided affair. Although the direct consequence of the project is the web application itself, the implications covered more than just the product itself. This report also highlights the underlying concept of online education. In an unprecedented move to "teach how to teach", future references may be made to this project not just for the specific product involved but as a well-balanced guide to online learning design. | en_US |
