Title: | Effects of coastal structures on tsunami-induced flooding and hazard mitigation : effect of incident wave heights - WR-25AB | Authors: | Chan, Joann Yi Ru. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Environmental engineering | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | This report is a detailed account of my Final Year Project (FYP) done in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). It is about the effect of mangrove forests and coastal buildings in mitigating tsunamis. In the recent decade, the world has experienced tsunamis of massive magnitudes and the aftermath of these natural disasters. It is getting increasingly important to determine how to reduce the devastating impacts of tsunamis. My focus of the project is the degree of mitigation effect of the mangrove forests and coastal buildings with respect to varying incident tsunami wave heights. This report will contain a brief background on tsunamis, mangrove forests and coastal buildings as well as steps used to carry out the experiments. Finally we will discuss the results of the experiments and evaluation and conclusion of the project. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/45445 | Schools: | School of Civil and Environmental Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
