Title: | Investigation on long-reach broadcast/multicast-capable WDM-PON | Authors: | Cai, Frank Laifa | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Wireless communication systems | Issue Date: | 2011 | Abstract: | This report will investigate on a novel Long-Reach Broadcast/Multicast-Capable WDM-PON scheme based on carrier reuse and extends 120km bidirectional Long-Reach WDM-PON link utilizing amplifier such as Distributed Raman Amplifier (DRA). Downstream data are mixed with the subcarrier signal/radio frequency to achieve Subcarrier Modulated signal (SCM). The subcarriers are employed to distribute to the downlink unicast data, whereas the carriers are used by the Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (RSOA) at each Optical Network Unit (ONU) for uplink transmission. An additional Broadcast/Multicast channel is multiplexed with the unicast downlink channels. Utilizing splitting capability of the power splitter and the cyclic property of the Array Waveguide Grating (AWG) at the remote node, the Broadcast/Multicast channel and a dedicated downlink unicast channel are transmitted to each optical network unit simultaneously. At the Central Office (CO), two DRAs are used by employing co-propagating pumping technique to achieve high gain after propagating through a 120km feeder fiber. In addition, an EDFA was also employed just before the demultiplexer at the CO to amplify the uplink transmission signals. Simulation results show that the investigation is able to obtain power budgets sufficient for data detection | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/45704 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Research Centres: | Network Technology Research Centre | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
