Abstract: Measurement of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of biological specimens is a primary concern for many biomechanical tests. The tendon has irregular shape and geometry, making measurement and determination of the CSA of the tendons difficult. Problems associated include damage to the structure, inaccurate values for non-uniform shapes, labor intensive techniques or requirement of expensive equipment. The author describes a non-destructive, non-contact technique for measurement of tendon CSA—laser micrometer system based on the works of Lee and Woo
