Title: Design and construct an uninterruptible power supply system

Abstract: This report aims to present a transportable and environmentally friendly form of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. The author summarizes existing UPS technologies and delves into the energy storage methods that are crucial to a power system. The report takes a novel approach into the development of a design that eases off the dependence on existing main supply systems. A UPS built in this report stores up to twelve watts of power and this is sufficient to fully charge two smart phones. The uniqueness of this UPS lies with its non- dependence on a main supply. The charging process is through a dynamo-mounted bicycle. An electrical circuit is constructed to convert the dynamo’s alternative current power into direct current power safely. The safety components prevent power surges and give the user the choice of engaging the UPS. Through a series of test rides, this system is found to achieve near full charge after forty-five minutes of cycling. The proper usage of the UPS calls for proper battery usage practices. When the battery is not fully depleted, it is more difficult to get a full charge in. The UPS does not replace the main power grid. In times of need, the alternative power source is essential. The constructed system can be charged and kept for long periods, without running the risk of losing charge. Uninterruptible in charging, uninterruptible in giving charge to depleted devices, the UPS in this report allows the user to gain energy in the bodily-beneficial and environmental manner. Its convenience is underrated and the reliability unerring.
