Abstract: How does media coverage affect the stock price response in the context of acquisition announcements? Using 273 CEO interviews on CNBC that were coincided with acquisition announcements and their control sample of non-interviewed announcements, we find that the dates of CEO interviews relative to the acquisition announcement dates, and the linguistics of these interviews affect investors’ response to acquisition announcements.
