dc.description.abstractAn applied research project was initiated under the Nanyang Technological Institute's Applied Research Scheme under the above title. When massive earthworks began for the Phase II construction of the new NTI campus an excellent opportunity became available for study of soil behaviour around such excavations. An interest in this area of geotechnical engineering would have considerable applications for similar work on the Mass Rapid Transit. Work begun on this project can continue indefinitely in extensions and hence this is titled an interim report.en_US
