Abstract: The Eulerian and Lagrangian residual circulation in Johor Strait are obtained from a finite element tidal model through a time-averaging process. They are used to study the long-term pollutant transport and water exchange characteristics in Johor Strait. It is found that the Lagrangian residual circulation are different from and more complicated than the Eulerian counterpart and that they are complimentary to each other.
