Abstract: This report sums up the activities related to the Applied Research Project RP 35/91 "Investigation of electro-rheological fluid (ERF) based intelligent mechanical devices: Phase I, Damping and control strategies". Two distinctive areas related to the above topic are investigated: The first area pertains to basic studies on deformation behaviours and strength of the ER fluid, which were meant to lay a foundation for modelling characteristics of ER fluid based mechanical devices. The second area deals with the design and characterisation of the ER fluid based dampers and structures.
