Abstract: While Singapore has succeeded in transforming itself from a home-based banking centre in the 1960s to its current position as a regional financial centre, its ultimate objective would be to become an international financial centre as well as a regional or possibly international capital centre1. In this paper, we trace the development of Singapore as a financial centre, highlighting the factors that have contributed to its progress as well as evaluating its potential growth as an international financial centre.
