Abstract: In this report, the surface properties of polymer nanocomposites were investigated and optimized. The abrasive wear mechanism in polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites was determined. It was found that the poor abrasion resistance is attributed to defects at the clay-polymer interface, resulting in greater wear of the polymer matrix. The abrasion resistance of the nanocomposites could be enhanced by surface treatment with oxygen plasma for short durations.
