Title: UWB DOA estimation using spatial match filtering

Abstract: In this dissertation, a portable antenna array has been designed for direction finding application by exploiting spatial correlation between signals. In contrast to temporal matched filtering, it is not necessary to know the pilot signal in advance at the receiver and to correlate it with the receiving signal. Any arbitrary waveform is suitable for the proposed design because the received signal at one element will be used as the template. For this work, the type of signal used in the simulation is impulse-based UWB and two elements are used in the array design. The idea is to estimate the IR-UWB DOA by rotating the elements in the device mechanically. In other words, the received signal detected first at one element is used as the template and correlation is preformed when the other element detects the signal. The maximum power is obtained when the angle made by the array rotation and the incoming signal direction are aligned. From this maximum correlated value, DOA of impulse-based UWB signal is determined.UWB has been increasingly employed
