Abstract: One of the important trends in Photonics is to miniaturize and simplify photonic devices. Bragg Gratings have been used in many devices, for many applications, such as WDM filters, sensors, laser mirrors, components to slow down the light etc... In general, most gratings on waveguides (WBGs) need a confining channel for efficient light propagation. In this project, the author has investigated and developed a novel and promising way to use WBGs without the need of a channel using a Prism coupling technique.
