Abstract: The objective of this PhD dissertation is to describe the design and implementation of high performance ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filters on planar transmission-line structures. With synthesis methodology, the insertion loss function of the proposed transmission-line model can be derived and analyzed to exhibit UWB bandpass or quasihigh- pass filtering behavior with Chebyshev equal-ripple responses in the main passband. Therefore, the element values involved in the networks can be calculated and the dimensions of the filter can be determined without tedious full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations. With geometrical variation of the initial filter, the overall circuitry size can be reduced and cross-coupling route can be introduced to enhance the filter selectivity. The synthesis approach offers the designers an alternative way to design UWB bandpass filters rapidly and efficiently.
