dc.description.abstractWiMAX or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access supports two modes of operation - The PMP (Point to Multipoint) and the Mesh mode. Unlike in the PMP mode which allows the Substations (SS) to communicate only with the Base Station (BS), the Mesh Mode allows the SS to create a link with other SS which are in coverage area. This enables inter SS transfer of data without the need of an intermediary BS. However, in most network deployments the nodes which work as BS connect the mesh to the Internet thereby acting as a backbone.en_US
