Abstract: The performance and properties of power converters operating with constant voltage sources, such as batteries and rectifiers, have been thoroughly analysed in the existing power converter literature. However the same has not been done for power converters supplied by capacitors. This may be because the energy densities of conventional capacitors have not been sufficiently high to use them widely as replacements for batteries. However with the development of ultracapacitors having moderate energy densities, this situation has now changed.
