dc.description.abstractThis thesis has proposed a compact and efficient Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) based on axial-flux partially-self-bearing permanent magnet (PM) machine. Five aspects on the design, analysis, control and implementation of the proposed FESS have been covered in the following sequence: (1) Design of the proposed FESS; (2) Modeling of axial-flux synchronous PM machine; (3) FEM analysis and model verification for the axial-flux PM machine; (4) Control design and experimental implementation of the proposed FESS; (5) Stabilizing synchronization control for the radial magnetic bearings.en_US
