Abstract: This thesis investigates a relatively new technique in the global optimization field, namely Differential Evolution (DE). A thorough literature survey is provided on the DE algorithm. This survey starts from DE's origin, goes through the basic mutation, crossover and selection operations, as well as the many variants that aim to improve the performance of the original DE, before ending with DE's real-life applications.
