Abstract: Law enforcement and search and rescue personnel are frequently required to search for drowning victims as well as missing objects underwater. Use of acoustic underwater visualization technique is a solution to the above addressed concern. One of the most effective instruments for detection and recognition of objects in turbid water is the SONAR. The determination of the location of submerged objects or drowned victims using sonar image plays an important role in retrieving the object. Postprocessing of the serial sonar data was accomplished to realize dead reckoning in order to determine the location of submerged object. A semi-automated system and smart remote operation was implemented incorporating a graphical user interface.
