Title: | Business process reengineering for general cargo ship discharging operations at Yangon port | Authors: | Aung Naing Pe | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2005 | Abstract: | Trade liberalization and globalization have brought about tremendous increase in world economy. With the increase of world economy, sea-borne trade increases as 90% of the world's trade volume move by sea. It should be noted that there were just about 600 million tons carried by sea in 1950 but it was reaching 6.17 billion tons in 2003. Although the world's seaborne trade is increasing, the Union of Myanmar's Merchant Shipping has been declining. At the same time dissatisfaction arises from ship owners, especially from the general cargo shipping sector, for longer port stay and higher port charges at Yangon Port. On the other hand importers / exporters are complaining about the higher freight rates charged by general cargo shipping lines. The primary propose of this research is to investigate the current general cargo ship operation processes at Yangon Port in order to propose a better process design so that the stated problems facing by shipping lines, importers and exporters can be minimized. | Description: | 146 p. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/47120 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
