Title: Diamond turning of an aluminum composite with ultrasonic vibration
Authors: Lin, Ge.
Keywords: DRNTU::Engineering::Manufacturing
Issue Date: 2004
Abstract: Ultraprecision turning by applying the ultrasonic vibration to the tip of the cutting tool (turning with vibration) has various advantages compared to conventional ultra-precision turning. The disadvantage of turning with vibration is its relatively slow cutting speed. Some of the research on turning with vibration has been carried out by using high-end CNC machines. The objectives of this project are to build an ultrasonic vibration device on a low-end CNC machine, study diamond turning of an aluminium composite with ultrasonic vibration applied to the cutting tool, and evaluate the effect of cutting parameters and vibration parameters on the surface roughness of turned samples.
