Abstract: Aerogels are extremely light, contain 99% of air and are porous in nature. They consist of inorganic oxides such as silica. Especially silica Aerogels have low thermal conductivity, high melting point (1,473K) and good sound absorption. These properties have made them a future candidate material for lightweight and high temperature applications.
