In the context of the modern business world, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an essential part of a company’s operations. This is especially prevalent now as companies seek to attain sustainable growth while preserving the environment and not overlook the needs of their stakeholders such as the local community, employees and activists. This research concerns the CSR initiatives implemented in Bintan Resorts, a popular tourist destination in South East Asia. The objectives are to identify the CSR initiatives undertaken by Bintan Resort Cakrawala (BRC) in Bintan Resorts; to evaluate the effectiveness of these initiatives in meeting the objectives of the environmental and social aspects of the hosting community; and to identify the challenges faced as well as to suggest possible solutions. Through field observation and semi-structured interviews with the management and staff, data were obtained for study on the CSR practices of BRC via a three-prong approach namely, Village Enterprise, Peduli Pendidikan (Education Assistance) and Bhakti Sosial (Social Assistance). BRC had earlier faced several challenges related to the lack of motivation of the community to adopt the practices that BRC has implemented. BRC responded by reassessing the situation and designing the programme to better fit the specific circumstances. Now the prospect for BRC and its CSR initiatives for the resident community are good, should there be a continuation of their current practices coupled with constant assessment and appropriate modification.en_US
