Title: | A case study on Wah Kee Engineering Pte Ltd. | Authors: | Choy, Chan Yuan. Koh, Jun Hao. |
Keywords: | DRNTU::Business::Management::Productivity | Issue Date: | 2012 | Abstract: | This report is based on a case study on a local SME, Wah Kee Engineering Pte. Ltd. (WKE). WKE is a business-to-business company dealing with companies in the oil-and-gas industry. Like most SMEs, it faces many challenges in its daily operations. With unproductive methods of operations and limited ability to tap economies of scale, WKE has commissioned us to seek ways to optimize its internal processes to reduce costs and improve its competitive advantage. Having obtained a mandate from the management of WKE to act as consultants to perform a thorough study on the company’s current work processes, we started by reviewing the possible frameworks that can be applied. After some deliberation, we decided to apply the value chain framework, which helped identify various inefficiencies in WKE’s different operating activities. At the end of the study, we identified Inbound Logistics, Firm Infrastructure and Procurement activities as the main areas with processes that could be improved. As such, we have decided to focus on these 3 activities in our study. Thus, the results of our consultancy work are the following deliverables: 1. Inventory Monitoring System and Procedures: Deliverable 1: Appendix G: G-1 to G-11 2. Cost and Managerial Accounting System: Deliverable 2: Appendix H: H-1 to H-4 Working closely with WKE’s management team, we developed our deliverables based on the requirements and needs of the company. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/48267 | Schools: | Nanyang Business School | Organisations: | Wah Kee Engineering Pte Ltd | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
