Abstract: Ever since the advancement in mobile technology, the number of Smartphone users have been increasing tremendously. All businesses are in pursuit of just-in-time actionable information - just the right information, at the right time, at the right location. This led to the motivation of designing a location based mobile application in which every individual can benefit with the most suitable information in the fast pace environment. The application will be developed on Android operating system, and will make use of the cloud to create a real time interaction between users. It will start with usecase analysis, database design and finally, a prototype will be coded out and tested. It is also developed with the mindset of having reusable modules so as to benefit other developers in the future. The application is successfully implemented at the end. It provides retailers a platform to attract consumers, as well as consumers with the most appropriate promotion at the right place and time. The reusable modules are documented and a second application to keep track of traffic conditions is developed to showcase the use of those modules. Lastly, the limitations of location based service on mobile application are discussed and recommendations on future works are given to enhance the application.
