Abstract: While transformation optics has long been popular, the transition from concept demonstration to practical implementation is not clear. In this final year project, I focus on how to design practical transformation optics based devices. Two methods are introduced to simplify the transformation process for fabrication. 1. The homogeneous transformation optics method is actualized into the design of two-dimensional wave squeezer. The requirement for the transformed dielectric material is minimized to homogeneous and nonmagnetic. In this way, the fabrication process of the transformation optics device becomes practical. The simulation result shows the designed wave squeezer performs well at preserving the wave profile and it has a low reflection rate. One possible application of this wave squeezer is being an element in the optoelectronic circuit which cherishes the property of compact volume. 2. In addition, the area-preserving affine transformation optics method is introduced and is put into practice in the design of a two-dimensional wave bending adapter. This method provide the solution to the problem of nonmagnetism yet it avoids the undesired impedance mismatch occurred in the normal homogeneous transformation which adopted renormalization technique. Restrictions of anisotropy and bending angles are discussed in this paper also. The simulation result shows that the wave bending adapter has ideal transmittance and natural dielectric materials are suitable to fabricate the device.
