Title: | Simulation study of fiber radio system | Authors: | Nay Htoo Aung | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Antennas, wave guides, microwaves, radar, radio | Issue Date: | 2000 | Abstract: | In this thesis, we proposed a broad-band 60-GHz bidirectional fiber-radio system. Two different techniques were used for optical generation of 60-GHz millimeter-wave signals using optical heterodyning of two sidebands from modulated optical carrier. In first technique, proposed by us, Fiber bragg gratings and Fabry-Perot filters were used as bandpass filters for sideband filtering. Since sidebands were produced from a single laser, their phase noises were correlated. This enabled the generation of millimeter-wave signal with very low phase noise. The method reported here could generate high power signals with frequency four times the input drive signal. Signal purity depended on the filter parameters. Second technique did not require a special filtering technique. It used a Mach-Zehnder (MZ) modulator biased at WKt which suppressed the carrier component and all the even terms. By mixing two strong odd components at photodiode, high power signals with frequency twice the input drive signal could be generated. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/4927 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
