Abstract: In this thesis, our aim is to develop a novel molecular dynamics like model for pedestrians and cyclists sharing a common bidirectional pathway and then run computer simulations to investigate how different variables such as pedestrian and cyclist behaviours, density of people, population of people and wideness of sidewalks influence the safety without sacrificing significant throughput. The model should help us gain more insight on whether sidewalks should be widened and to what extent.
