Abstract: Recently, there has been a growing trend towards the interest and development of 3D technologies. With 3D films becoming a standard release format and the introduction of entertainment systems such as Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, society is becoming more and more aware of the capabilities of these technologies. Moving away from entertainment and media, 3D vision technologies have a number of hugely beneficial applications, within areas such as the surveillance, navigation, system control, biomedical and automotive industries.
