Abstract: Acoustic device development has seen the emergence of surface speakers, also known as vibration speakers, in the market. Surface speaker is seen as a portable version of loudspeakers in its function of producing sound but at the same time takes up much lesser space. Although surface speaker is still not widely known today, given time it may become an important part of the market. This project works on developing a practical application for the surface speakers. The general idea of the practical application explores the possibility of integrating surface speakers with touch-screen panels by facilitating the impression of having sound from the panel follow the touch of the user. The project focuses on the development of software solutions which includes creating motion capture function using a webcam, programming audio panning system with an external sound card and forming a linkage between the two programs. Elaborated studies and understanding of OpenCV library, Creative Sound Blaster sound card and audio capabilities of the surface speakers will be conducted to design audio panning capability from four surface speakers to respond according to parameters returned by the motion capture program.
