Abstract: Nowadays electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) are becoming a market trend. Compared with fuel-powered vehicles, EVs and HEVs are much more energy saving and environment friendly. They significantly increase the efficiency of energy and reduce the combustion of fuel. Also the wide range of power sources is another advantage of EVs and HEVs. To ensure the efficiency and the safety of EVs and HEVs, scientists and engineers pay lots of their attentions on the energy storage system. Among the three commonly used rechargeable batteries for EV/HEV energy storage, for example, Lithium-ion, lead-acid and Ni/MH batteries, Lithium-ion battery have highest energy density, high cell voltage and longest shelf lifr. Also, Li-ion batteries have a low self-discharge rate and no memory-effect issues. All the advantages above make the use of Li-ion battery increased significantly, especially in EV/HEV industry.
