Abstract: Manganese Oxide has a very long history of being used as anode material in Lithium Ion Battery. There are lots of advantages by using it as anode materials such as low cost, good electrochemical property and environmental friendly. Manganese Oxide is a safe aqueous-based electrode material that transports ions and electrons effectively. The invention in successful synthesis of Manganese Oxide is big step forward in Lithium Ion Battery development. In the report, I am going to mention two major approaches to synthesize Manganese Oxide which are wet synthesis method involving Potassium Permanganate and Manganese Nitrate at room temperature and hydrothermal method. Either method is able to get the desirable morphology, functionality and electrochemical property. Besides that, the report is also going to focus more on its remaining drawbacks and possible remedies. When manganese oxide undergoes a high temperature or pressure, it is easier to get collapsed. In order to maintain the functionality and improve the electrochemical properties, we try to coat a thin film shell on Manganese Oxide to prevent the fail of structure. Three types of coating materials on Manganese Oxide are introduced in the report, which are Porous Carbon, Copper Oxide and Conducting Polymer. Additionally, their respective influence on electrochemical performance of Manganese Oxide will be examined and compared in detail. Materials characterization is done by Transmission Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction Spectroscopy.
